Events
This page outlines all events that AliefVotes has hosted since our founding in 2022. In all our efforts, events, and initiatives, we aim to collaborate intensely with community members and non-profit organizations and meet the needs of the Alief community through topical diversity and a focus on youth leadership. All events are organized by Alief ISD students, with mentorship and funding support from AliefVotes staff.

Alief Youth Conference
AliefVotes, in partnership with Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas (District F), will host our fourth annual youth conference on June 13, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 2005). Pocket Prairie Clean-Up
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Resilient Cities Network, the National Wildlife Federation, Decentralized Farming LLC, and the Alief Super Neighborhood Council is hosting a clean-up on May 30, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Alief Community Garden, 8409 1/2 Dairy View Ln, Houston, TX 77072. This event will be led by student leader Lander Gonzalez, focused on cleaning, weeding, and maintaining the pocket prairie, along with the history of the pocket prairie. AI Awareness Workshop
AliefVotes, in partnership with Harris County Universal Services, on May 16, 2026 is hosting a workshop from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 1511/1512), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event will bring Alief ISD students and AliefVotes Fellows as presenters, focused on using AI safely and responsibly for school, work, and everyday life. Register at tinyurl.com/AI-safety-alief. Celebrate Her Health
AliefVotes, in partnership with Harris County, Commissioner Lesley Briones, Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, Harris County Public Health, the Alief Super Neighborhood Council, and Hope Clinic is hosting a health fair, on May 9, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Chinese Community Center (Room 122), 9800 Town Park Dr, Houston, TX 77036. Career Development Workshop
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Alief Independent School District, the Alief Super Neighborhood Council, GenHTX, and AECHS FBLA is hosting a careers conference, on May 2, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Alief Center for Advanced Careers, 12160 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX 77082. This event will bring professionals leading hands-on workshops, focused on STEM and law policy pathways, career exploration, interview practice, resume building, leadership and communication skills, and money management. Art and Essay Contest
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Houston Department of Neighborhoods and Commissioner Lesley Briones is hosting an art and essay contest, with submissions due Friday, May 1, 2026. This contest will bring Alief student artists and writers, focused on identifying a local issue with a proposed solution or describing a place in Alief of significant value. College Admissions Webinar
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Parris Foundation, will host a college admission webinar for students on April 29, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM virtually on Zoom. This event will bring admissions professionals from the Parris Foundation and a recent Alief ISD graduate accepted into Harvard, MIT, and more, focused on college admissions guidance. Alief Tree Planting
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Houston TREE Initiative, the Alief Super Neighborhood Council, and Sewa USA hosted a tree planting, on April 19, 2026 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 9225 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77099. This event will bring community volunteers, focused on tree planting in Alief. Volunteers receive 6+ service hours for 3 hours of work. Register at tinyurl.com/alief planting.
Short Film Screening
AliefVotes, in partnership with 1894 Books, Woori Juntos, The WOW Project, and VCVM Collective, hosted a short film screening on April 18, 2026 from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM at the Alief Community Garden, 8409 1/2 Dairy View Ln, Houston, TX 77072. This event will bring vendors Divine Sweets & Treats, fey.th, Vincent Vo, and Rice & Grits by Hieu Huynh, focused on a short film screening and community discussion.
Civic Egg-Stravaganza
AliefVotes, on April 11, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Amity Park (12509 Alief Clodine Rd, Houston, TX 77082) will host an Easter event for the Alief community in collaboration with Alief ISD. This event will bring community members of all ages, focused on Easter activities including egg decorating, bunny hop sack races, an egg and spoon relay, and an Easter Egg Hunt. Financial Literacy Workshop
AliefVotes, in partnership with non-profit partners will host a financial literacy workshop on March 28, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 2003), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event will bring financial literacy and entrepreneurship educators, focused on starting a business, budgeting, investing, and personal finance. Register at tinyurl.com/financial-alief. ASNC Monthly Meeting
The Alief Super Neighborhood Council will meet on March 24, 2026 starting at 6:30 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 1D 1512), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event will bring residents and ASNC leadership, focused on local developments and neighborhood growth.
Food Delivery for Alief Seniors
AliefVotes, in partnership with Alief ISD students and fellows, on March 22, 2026, with deliveries to registered seniors and residents with disabilities in Alief. Drug Prevention & Education
AliefVotes, in partnership with community organizations, hosted a drug prevention and education workshop on March 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 2005), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. Mental Health Workshop
AliefVotes, in partnership with Kauri's Lucky Star Foundation and the Alief Super Neighborhood Council, hosted a mental health workshop on March 14, 2026, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 1509), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. Forest Clean Up
AliefVotes, in partnership with Kerr UNICEF and Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, hosted a forest clean-up on March 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kerr High School, 8150 Howell Sugarland Rd, Houston, TX 77083. Art and Essay Contest
AliefVotes hosted an art and essay contest, with submissions due Friday, March 15, 2026. AliefVotes, in partnership with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and State Representative Gene Wu, hosted a blood drive on February 26, 2026, from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center, 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. GOTV Virtual Text Bank
AliefVotes, in partnership with community organizations, hosted a virtual GOTV text bank on February 25, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event brought volunteer text bankers, focused on informing local voters about upcoming elections. Register at bit.ly/alief-gotv. A $20 UberEats code was provided to attendees who stayed the full duration.
GOTV Alief Block Walk
AliefVotes, in partnership with community organizations, hosted a GOTV block walk on February 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Picnic Area Outdoors), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event brought volunteer canvassers, focused on a non-partisan training and block walk to inform residents of election dates and polling sites. Register at bit.ly/alief-gotv.
Cancer Awareness Roundtable
AliefVotes, in partnership with Empower4Cancer, hosted a cancer awareness roundtable on February 7, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Dr, Houston, TX 77042. This event brought survivors, families, and patients, focused on challenges facing those affected by cancer in the Alief area.
Alief Disaster Preparedness
AliefVotes released the community-driven Alief Disaster Preparedness Protocol, a 97-page, student-led report and policy recommendation document. Shaped by 2.5 years of community engagement, over 93 events, and six disaster roundtables, this report features authorship from Alief ISD students under Tommy Wan. Alief Cleanup
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Alief Super Neighborhood Council, hosted a community clean-up on January 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the park at 13629 Alief Clodine Rd, Houston, TX 77082. Alief Blood Drive
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, hosted a blood drive on January 10, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center, 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. Alief End-of-Year Picnic
AliefVotes hosted an end-of-year picnic on December 27, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Alief Community Park, 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. Care Gift Basket Workshop
AliefVotes, in partnership with Mind4Youth and CFA Academy, hosted the Care Gift Basket Workshop on December 12, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Alief Kerr High School. This event brought community volunteers, focused on turning donations collected during the Care Gift Drive into care baskets to support those in need.
Texas Legislative Education Workshop on Disasters
AliefVotes hosted the Texas Legislative Education Workshop on Disasters on December 6, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Chinese Community Center (Room 122), 9800 Town Park Dr, Houston, TX 77036. This event brought leaders in disaster preparedness, focused on the Texas Legislature's role in community safety and reviewing a first draft of a community-created report over lunch and drinks.
Alief Senior Food Delivery
AliefVotes, in partnership with the WOW Project and Mukerji Law, hosted a Thanksgiving senior food delivery on November 23, 2025, in the morning and early afternoon. This event brought student volunteers, focused on delivering turkeys and non-perishable food items to Alief residents who are seniors or have disabilities on a first-come, first-served basis. Let's Plant Trees in Alief!
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Alief Super Neighborhood Council, the Tree Initiative, Trees for Houston, and Sewa USA, hosted a tree planting on November 22, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 12200 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77099. NHS & AliefVotes Donation Drive
AliefVotes, in partnership with the AECHS NHS, hosted a seasonal donation drive with collection in two phases: a first-round deadline on November 21, 2025, and a second-round deadline on December 12, 2025, at Ms. Escot's Room. This event brought student donors, focused on contributing non-perishable items and canned goods to support those in need. The donor of the most cans received a $25 Amazon gift card for each round.
Canned Food Drive
AliefVotes, in partnership with the WOW Project and Mukereji Law, hosted a canned food drive from November 19 to November 21, 2025, with donation boxes placed around the school. This event brought student donors, focused on supporting a Thanksgiving turkey distribution for seniors and residents with disabilities. The top canned food donor received a $25 gift card.
ASNC Monthly Meeting
The Alief Super Neighborhood Council met on November 18, 2025, at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 1D 1512), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This meeting brought residents and ASNC leadership, focused on local updates and civic collaboration, followed by a Houston Police PIP (Positive Interaction Program) meeting beginning at 6:30 PM.
ASNC Tree Planting
The Alief Super Neighborhood Council, in partnership with Sewa International and Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, hosted a tree planting on November 15, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM at 12200 S Dairy Ashford Rd, Houston, TX 77099. This event brought community volunteers, focused on tree planting in memory of Barbara Quattro to celebrate her leadership and legacy.
Civic Engagement Workshop
State Representative Dr. Suleman Lalani and partnering organizations hosted a Civic Engagement Workshop on November 15, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Girls and Boys Club of Mission Bend, 8709 Addicks Clodine Rd, Houston, TX 77083. Food Forest Garden Day
Urban Harvest hosted Food Forest Garden Day on November 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Alief Community Garden and Orchard, 8409 Dairy View Lane, Houston, TX 77072. This event brought volunteer gardeners, focused on gardening, composting demonstrations, expert-led sessions on food forest design, and fruit tree care. Voices of the Ballot
Voices of the Ballot, a creative showcase, took place on October 30, 2025, at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Dr, Houston, TX 77042. This event brought artists and performers, focused on the intersection of creativity and civic engagement through visual art displays, spoken-word performances, and discussions of identity, justice, and community.
Barbara Quattro Celebration
The Alief Super Neighborhood Council and Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas hosted a Celebration of Life on October 25, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Senior Room), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event brought community members, focused on celebrating the life and leadership of Barbara Quattro.
Alief Proud Day
The Alief Independent School District hosted Alief Proud Day on November 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This event brought community members, focused on celebrating the community with live music, family activities, student performances, community resources, and food trucks. Free entry was provided.

The Alief Super Neighborhood Council and SEWA hosted a tree planting on October 25, 2025, from 8:45 AM to 10:30 AM near South Dairy Ashford between Bissonnet and West Belfort. This event brought community volunteers, focused on tree planting in memory of Barbara Quattro to celebrate her leadership.

Prairie Planting Volunteer Day
AliefVotes, in partnership with Alief ISD student leaders, Kyle Frese (Founder of Decentralized Farming LLC), Kate Unger (National Wildlife Foundation), and the Resilient Cities Network, hosted a prairie planting volunteer day on October 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM at the Brays Village East HOA, 10615 High Star Drive, Houston, TX 77072. Fellowship Application
AliefVotes opened applications for its 2025-2026 Fellowship Program, with a deadline of September 30, 2025. This year-long intensive brought Alief ISD high school students, focused on interactive civic engagement training and leadership skills, with all schools encouraged to apply, especially Elsik, Hastings, and Taylor High School students. Community Climate Summit

Planting Volunteer Day
AliefVotes, in partnership with Kyle Frese (Founder of Decentralized Farming LLC), Kate Unger (National Wildlife Foundation), Urban Harvest, and the Resilient Cities Network, hosted a planting volunteer day on September 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM at the Alief Community Garden, 8409 1/2 Dairy View Ln, Houston, TX 77072. Youth Workshop
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Office of Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, hosted a Civic Engagement Youth Workshop on September 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Chinese Community Center, 9800 Town Park Dr, Houston, TX 77036. This event brought community members of all ages, with keynotes from Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas, Commissioner Dexter McCoy, and Dr. Darlene Breaux (Alief ISD Trustee), focused on learning about the Alief community and ways to get involved in civics. Alief Night Market
The WOW Project hosted the Alief Night Market on September 13, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 8409 1/2 Dairy View Ln, Houston, TX 77072. Disaster Preparedness Event
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Resilient Cities Network, hosted a Disaster Preparedness Roundtable on September 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 1511), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event brought leaders in disaster preparedness, including the WHAM CEO, District F, Precinct 4, and the City of Houston, focused on community disaster recovery over lunch and drinks. Virtual Information Session
AliefVotes hosted a virtual information session on September 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Zoom. This event brought prospective Fellowship applicants, focused on Fellowship application tips, a mock interview, and a deeper look at the selection process. Health Disparities Workshop
HEWS, in partnership with AliefVotes, hosted the first session of its Health Equity Workshop Series on September 6, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Dr, Houston, TX 77042. This event brought community members, focused on understanding health disparities in marginalized communities, including barriers to care, food insecurity, and chronic illness. Alief Clean-Up

The Alief Super Neighborhood Council met on August 26, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center, 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This meeting brought residents and neighbors, focused on updates from elected officials, the police department, and community events.
The Big 3 Anime Voting Summit
Collective Action for Youth hosted The Big 3 Anime Voting Summit on July 26, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center, 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. This event brought anime fans and community members, focused on voter resources alongside a costume contest, anime vendors, food, body art, live music, games, raffles, and a live panel.
AliefVotes Donor Briefing
AliefVotes scheduled a wellness day on July 26, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 2003), 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072, which was postponed due to federal funding cuts affecting partnering organizations. Alief Pocket Prairie Build Day
AliefVotes, in partnership with the Resilient Cities Network and the National Wildlife Federation, hosted a Pocket Prairie Build Day on July 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM at the Alief Community Garden, 8409 1/2 Dairy View Ln, Houston, TX 77072. This event brought community volunteers, focused on seeding and learning how pocket prairies improve water quality, reduce pollution, and support local wildlife. Air Purifier Distribution
Daikin hosted an air purifier distribution on July 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Alief Community Center, 11903 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77072. Fire Safety Canvass
AliefVotes, in partnership with the District F office, hosted a fire safety canvass on July 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Catalina Square neighborhood, meeting at 11920 Beechnut St, Houston, TX 77072. AliefVotes, in partnership with Planned Parenthood, Jane's Due Process, SEAT, and HARP, hosted a community-wide reproductive health workshop on May 31, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Dr, Houston, TX 77042. Community Sports Day
The Youth Health Advocacy Initiative hosted a summer rotational sports camp on July 12 and 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Alief Community Center. This event brought middle and high school students, focused on a fun, active weekend of sports. Participation was completely free.

Homelessness Initiative

This event brought volunteers, focused on distributing care bags filled with essentials to homeless neighbors in downtown Houston, and was organized by Esther, an Alief ISD student and AliefVotes Fellow. Our Annual Youth Conference

Community Dog Event!
AliefVotes, in partnership with Pawsitive Relations, hosted a pet event on April 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Alief Neighborhood Center (Room 2003). This event brought children, adults, and families, focused on canine body language, and was organized by AliefVotes Fellow Sharon. Free snacks, dog and cat toys, and pet food were provided.
Career & College Fair
AliefVotes, in partnership with Ms. Tina Lee and the E.L. Kingsley Foundation, hosted a career and college fair on April 3, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Hastings High School courtyard during A and C lunch. This event brought Hastings High School students and teachers, with over 15 employers and schools, and was organized by AliefVotes Fellows Kosi and Sepehr.

AliefVotes, in partnership with StemMed, hosted a youth-led environmental justice webinar on November 18, 2023. This event brought community members, focused on air quality, chromium-6 in Alief, pollution, concrete batch plants, and related issues in San Diego.
Southwest Fall Fair
AliefVotes, in partnership with the League of Women Voters, the Chinese Community Center, the Chinese Civic Center, and OCA-Greater Houston, hosted the Southwest Fall Fair. This event brought community members of all ages, from kids to seniors, focused on a community fall fair.
Chromebook Distribution
AliefVotes, in partnership with Harris County Precinct 4, hosted a Chromebook distribution on October 21, 2023. This event brought community members, focused on distributing Chromebooks to expand broadband access. Supply was limited.
Annual Civic Engagement Workshop

Fellowship Program
